1 out of 5 stars A piece of worthless junk   July 26, 2010
James A. Husband (Barton, Vermont United States)
If you are running 64 bit Windows 7, run, don't walk away from this thing. I know my way around puters pretty well and have done everything possible to make this thing work twice in a row. It either takes up to five minutes for the thing to actually start printing, or it just won't print at all. I have downloaded the newest, snazziest updated drivers from the HP site and spent most of an evening waiting for them to do their thing only to find no improvement. Mine is about two weeks old. I am on the verge of trashing it and buying a printer that works. It is not that it never works. Once or twice out of six or eight times it actually prints something the way that it is supposed to, but it is not reliable, and will let you down for sure right when you need it the most. A complete piece of crap, at least on this operating system.

1 out of 5 stars Am rethinking HP printers after this one   July 22, 2010
J. Barua (Washington)
I have used three HP Deskjet printers over the past 10 years and didn't think twice about ordering this one when I couldn't find ink cartridges that would work for my older printers even though they still work great. Never again! This is a cheap printer in every sense and I am surprised that HP would allow their good reputation to be tarnished by a piece of junk like this. It was trouble from the start and didn't last long enough to use up the two cartridges I purchased with it. Worse, I discovered that the warranty on the software is good for 1 year but on the printer itself, only for 3 months! I guess that should have been a tip-off, my bad. However, my HP fixation is broken and I will give other brands a good look for the first time in a decade. Look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 stars Very good small basic printer   July 20, 2010
Jim R. (AZ)
It does only one job and that is printing. Print quality for text and photos are both very good. I bought this as a second printer for travel because of its small size, light weight and very low price. In fact, a set of two ink cartridges cost a little more than the printer! So far it has been solid and reliable, no problems setting it up or operating it. It is exactly what I expected and I am happy with it.

1 out of 5 stars Labels Anyone?   July 15, 2010

This printer does not carefully align paper/labels/etc. as our old HP did. This printer is not made to print labels or envelopes properly aligned. We also found the online diagnostic inconsistant when we tried to install a HP replacement ink cart. After being told the new cart. was out of ink, then that it was incompatable, the printer went back to the store as defective. The clerk said she used to have the same exact printer and had nothing but trouble with it. HP used to make awesome printers years ago, I hope we can find one that works efficiently.

2 out of 5 stars Cheap price...cheap product   July 12, 2010
keep 'em honest
This is the second HP Printer I've owned. The first one, an all-in-one worked great and is still working. (I regret giving it to my mother!) I decided to buy the HP D1660 since I just purchased a scanner only device , and did not want to pay the added cost of an all-in-one device. I hold my breath nearly every time a sheet of paper feeds into the machine...paper crinkles and puckers... and in about 50% of the print jobs the ink is smeared. This printer is CHEAP in every aspect.
